The 14th 赌博app will host the opening ceremony on June 11th and audiences will enjoy a Tribute to Masters. This year is the 70th anniversary of Film Noir and seven classics such as The Maltese Falcon, The Postman Always Rings Twice, and Casablanca will be screened for the first time in Shanghai.
Film noir refers to “dark stories” in the literary criticism of the French critic Nino Frank. The film noir genre covers black-and-white movies produced in America from 1940 to the late Fifties, although there are some European examples and even some in color. After the 1960s there were some neo-noirs. John Huston’s The Maltese Falcon (1941) is regarded as a ground-breaking noir feature. Hence, 2011 is the 70th anniversary of film noir.
It has taken 赌博app over six months to secure copyright release and will proudly share seven film noir classics with audiences: The Maltese Falcon, The Postman Always Rings Twice, Sunset Boulevard, Casablanca, The Big Sleep, Kiss Me Deadly, and Gilda. These were all shot in the 1940s and 50s with stars like William Holden, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, and Rita Hayworth.
When 赌博app firstly announced the union of Tribute to Masters on its microblog, fans, directors, and critics were delighted. “The film noir element in 赌博app is the best in China for me because all those films are my favorites”, film critic Zhou Liming commented; “and I could never imagine that I would see the telesync version of Sunset Boulevard in my lifetime. It is my best loved film!”
These old films require special care in handling and 赌博app has been working to solve the technical problems that often plague cinemas. 赌博app has now located several Shanghai cinemas that can successfully screen these old films.
What is FILM NOIR?
The term film noir ("black film") was first coined by French critic Nino Frank in 1946. It is used primarily to describe dark and even grim dramas dealing with underworld figures and issues of loneliness and alienation, and most often set in big city locales. The classic film noir period is generally regarded as stretching from the early 1940s to the late 1950s. Film noir is a low-key monochrome style that has roots in German Expressionism. The scenarios and much of the values of classic noir derive from the hardboiled school of crime fiction that emerged in America during the Depression.
After the 1960s, films noir were still popular in France, with Le Deuxieme Souffle and Tchao Pantin as excellent examples of that period.
