The press conference of "The Karate Kid" made a big sensation at yesterday\'s 13th Shanghai International Film Festival. The film which has already taken more than 56 million US dollars in North America will be released in China on June 22.
A US-China co-production, the film stars Jaden Smith as a 12-year-old boy from Detroit who learns self-defense kung fu from an aging maintenance man (Jackie Chan) in China.
When asked about the performance of Jaden, Will Smith, also a producer of the movie said he was very proud of him.
"Jaden did a brilliant job," Smith said. "I think he is a fantastic young actor. We\'re happy that he\'s very disciplined and hardworking."
When Jaden demonstrated kung fu techniques, the loving father was very excited and performed rap singing to accompany for him.
"I should say that my father is very funny; he is very fair, always treating me like a friend," said Jaden Smith.
The Smith family said they had visited some of the most beautiful places on earth in China. Although they didn\'t have much time in Shanghai, they promised "We shall return."
In the eyes of Jackie Chan, Jaden is also a talented kung fu student. He admired the way Will Smith treated his son, joking that he was not such a good father as he was never patient with Jaycee Chan.
After saying "thank you" in Shanghai dialect, Smith added that his collaboration with Chan was very pleasant, and he would have another two new film projects potentially to work with Chinese stars.
"We\'re very proud to be invited to China," Smith said. "I believe our collaboration and accomplishment will be far beyond only a movie."
