12 Citizens was the biggest winner of last night’s China Movie Channel Media Award, taking five awards including Best Film and Best Director.
The crime thriller took place at a law school in China, students who didn’t pass the Anglo-American law final had a make-up exam in the form of mock jury trial in western court setting, when they played the roles of judge, prosecutor, defense attorney and jurors.
The film is praised for a rational approach to reflect social problems, reveal prejudice and at the same time pursue justice in the process.
Xu Ang took the Best Director award and Han Jinglong won the Best Screenplay for 12 Citizens.
He Bing won the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his excellent performance in 12 Citizens as juror No. 8.
The award for Best Actress in a Leading Role went to Yang Zishan from the film Miss Granny.
Han Tongsheng from the film 12 Citizens was awarded the Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Chen Jin from Ne Zha won the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
Dearest, Blind Massage and The Taking of Tiger Mountain were also named Films of the Year, a new award of China Movie Channel Media Award.
