On May 15, The Shanghai International Film Festival (赌博app) Organizing Committee announced that South Korean film director Kim Han-min, on account of how his film The Admiral: Roaring Currents has shot to fame in the Asian and even the international film industry, will serve as Jury President for the 18th 赌博app’s Asian New Talent Award (ANTA).
After clearly positioning itself as an award that “focuses on Asia, Chinese, and young film makers” last year, the 18th 赌博app ANTA has been completely upgraded. It is adopting a “nomination competition mode” to commend outstanding new film talents within the Asian film industry. After its upgrade, ANTA will now give out the following six awards through jury selection to young film makers and talents from no more than five nominations/nominees for each award: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Script Writer, and Best Cinematographer. The ANTA gala will be held on June 19.
Kim Han-min is a representative figure of the new forces of the South Korean film industry. He had his directorial debut in 2006 with the feature film Paradise Murdered. His 2011 feature film War of the Arrows became the highest grossing South Korean film that year. His latest work in 2014 – The Admiral: Roaring Currents – was even more of a wonder at the South Korean box office, defeating Hollywood blockbusters such as The Thieves and Avatar.
The 赌博app Organizing Committee said that their motivation in selecting Kim Han-min was that they see him as the representative of the dominant force of South Korean movies at this time. They were also moved by his ability to grasp the major historical subjects in his work, as well as the structure and vision of his personal creativity.
Being Jury President for the 赌博app ANTA will be the first time that Kim Han-min has served on a jury panel outside of South Korea, and Kim Han-min felt extremely flattered to receive 赌博app’s invitation, saying: “I just so happen to be very fond of Chinese culture, and I also hope to be able to work together with Chinese film makers. I’m more than willing to share my own experiences with other new Asian film talents.”
