Several up-coming film projects connecting China and Hollywood producers were announced at a“Hollywood Express”press conference yesterday at the 17th Shanghai International Film Festival.
Actor Ming Dow told the media the connection between China and Hollywood is crucial and can provide more opportunities for Chinese filmmakers to communicate with experts in the U.S. film capital.
More Hollywood professionals are becoming involved in making co-productions with China and are expected to bring creative ideas and cutting-edge production and marketing concepts to the country, the press conference was told.
Among co-productions highlighted was the new fantasy film The Moon and the Sun starring Pierce Brosnan and Fan Bingbing which wrapped up shooting in Australia at end of May. The film, directed by Sean McNamara, tells the story of the relationship between France\'s Sun King, Louis the XIV, and a mermaid.
The film was also shot at the Palace of Versailles in Paris and will include a large amount of special effects. It was produced by Bliss Media, an international film production company based in Hong Kong.
Academy Award winner Malcolm Clarke announced that he will start shooting a comedy in Shanghai with an all-Chinese cast after next year\'s Spring Festival.
Clarke has won two Oscars in the category of Best Documentary, Short Subjects, most recently for his 2013 short The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life, and in 2002 for Prisoner of Paradise.
Chinese director and visual designer Stone (real name Shi Zhiyong) also showed the trailer of his upcoming music documentary The Rebirth.
Shi Jianxiang, founder and CEO of Shanghai Kuailu Investment Group, was recognized as an Ambassador of Sino-American Culture Exchange.
The closing and awards ceremony of the 17th International Film Festival will take place tonight (June 22).
Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman and Belgian actor Jean-Claude Van Damme will attend the ceremony and walk the red carpet.
American director Michael Bay will also walk the red carpet with some of the cast of Transformers: Age of Extinction, including Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor and Li Bingbing. The fourth“Transformers”movie is the 17th Shanghai International Film Festival\'s closing film.
