Gong, who leads the seven-member jury panel for the 17th Shanghai International Film Festival, said it will work hard as a team to select the best movies from the 15 productions in final competition for the famous Golden Goblet award.
In addition to Gong, the jury panel includes British director and scriptwriter Sally Potter, South Korean filmmaker Im Sang-soo, Japanese director Shunji Iwai, Iranian actor Payman Maadi, Danish director Lone Scherfig and mainland filmmaker Liu Jie.
"The 15 finalists are selected from a total of 1,099 entries from all over the world," said Gong. "It is a difficult job for us. We will try to enjoy the whole process in the following days."
Gong also suggested the rising number of film school students in China to study hard in college and experience life after graduation.
"The most dangerous thing for a young filmmaker is that he is so satisfied with quick and small achievements that he isolates himself from real life and society," she added.
British director Sally Potter, on her first visit to China, said she is very excited about the composition of the panel.
"The jury panel is so international and each individual is interesting," Potter said. "We will have wonderful discussions on the movies."
Iranian actor Payman Maadi said people in Iran love Asian films and he is also a fan of Chinese cinema. The film industry in Iran is growing these days, with an annual output of about 150 movies.
Mainland filmmaker Liu Jie has an affinity with the Shanghai International Film Festival because it\'s where his movies used to receive awards.
"But this time I will be a judge who gives out awards," Liu said. "We will make decisions together on the basis of fairness. Only good movies can stand out."
The Golden Goblet awards ceremony will be held on the night of June 22.
