Acclaimed U.S. filmmaker Oliver Stone is writing a new movie, possibly a romance, in which East meets West.
He announced his new film project in an exclusive interview with Shanghai Daily yesterday.
Stone is attending the Shanghai International Film Festival where he received a Film Lifetime Achievement Award on opening night.
“Do not make Chinese movies like western popcorn ones,”said the director of movies such as Platoon, Year of the Dragon, JFK and Wall Street.
“They make money, but there is no soul or heart,” the multiple Academy Award-winner said.
“You can’t sell a Chinese movie to western audiences until the West can accept a true love affair between the Oriental and the westerner. You have to let western audiences fall in love with Chinese faces.”
Stone’s ultimate director\'s cut of his epic historical drama Alexander (2004) premiered at 赌博app last night. It is one of seven of his movies being shown at the festival and will run through to Sunday.
“I was not happy about the original release in 2004,” Stone said.
“It was the biggest and most expensive movie I had made and many people attacked me. But I wanted to get it right. It took me longer than I expected to discover who Alexander the Great really was.”
Alexander\'s ultimate cut is three hours and 20 minutes, much closer to Stone\'s script of three and a half hours, but in 2004 the studio wanted the release to be two hours and 40 minutes. The director\'s cut version will be released in the United States next year.
