South Korean romantic film Architecture 101 has been chosen as the closing film of the 15th Shanghai International Film Festival. The film\'s star-studded crew and cast, including director Lee Yong-zoo and actors Lee Je-hoon and Han Ga-in will also walk the red carpet of the festival\'s award ceremony on June 24.
Considered a South Korean version of the popular Taiwan China\'s romantic film You Are the Apple of My Eye, Architecture 101 is also a story of first love.
Seung-min, an architecture major in college, is smitten by a music major, Seo-yeun, he meets in an "Architecture 101" class they are taking together. A team collaboration on a class assignment helps them open up to each other, but time keeps passing without any romantic development as the awkward and rather naive Seung-min keeps his feelings toward Seo-yeun to himself.
Fifteen years later, the two met again and they are whisked back to the past which stirs old memories and perhaps new feelings.
It is the second movie for director Lee who studied architecture at Yonsei University. His feature directorial debut, Possessed in 2009, won the Best New Director accolade in the 10th Busan Film Critics Award.
It took Lee around 10 years to write and revise the script for this nostalgic romance movie. In his eyes, there is a special and delicate bond between love and architecture. Both are in need of proper care and attention and the final achievement for them is "building a home."
